My year|100wc

Year 5, the first steps into being a leader of the school. The emotions of transitioning from a year that I was comfortable with to a year that I almost had no idea of. This year would probably have to be the best year of my life from the laughs to the learning and the experiences that most kids dream of. If there was a word to explain the year it would have to be ‘in-explainable’ because of the diverse opportunities and experiences. From the good times, the bad and awkward, all of them were amazing in their own way.

Scale Model of the solar system

This video was about the models of the solar system on the internet, how they’re wrong and also about how it would look it there was a scale model of the solar system. Humans interpretations of the solar system can sometimes be wrong because of many different reasons. On the internet models of the solar system are just plain wrong. 2 people wanted to make a scale model of the solar system. In order to make it they need around 5 km of space. They showed how the planets would look if they were drawn on paper and that apparently they would be microscopic. The earth was a marble (around 1cm) and the sun was 1.5 meters in diameter. Why would models of the solar system have the planets wrong sizes, have the planets wrongly spaced apart and have the planets the wrong colour? Also why would they make these wrong models because to kids who are looking for a model of the solar system their idea of it would be misconstrued and they would end up with wrong knowledge. An understanding I have know is that models of the solar system on the internet are mostly incorrect and that this video is a perfect example of how models should be.

Models of the solar system|3-2-1 Reflection

This video was about models of the solar system and how they’ve changed over time. People have been wondering about space for as long as we can remember and helped us with live as we know it. The Ancient Greeks created the first recorded model of the solar system but its not like how we imagine it. Also after creating the model the Ancient Greeks noticed that it did not work and that they’d have to change it. But later they created more models more accurate to how it actually is. In 1601 a polish astronomer created a accurate model with the sun, earth and moon. Perfected by a German astronomer now depicted the sun in the middle and the earth and moon further apart but still in a circle in the solar system. In the  17 century Galileo Galilei created the first telescope which allowed people to see far away things such as different planets and stars. A question I have is how these astronomers figured out how the planets in the solar system were positioned? Another question I have is why the Ancient Greeks believed the earth was in the middle of our solar system? A understanding I have now that I didnt have before is that people have been studying the stars for hundreds and hundreds of years and have figured out so many things that helped the human race today advance so much that we can leave earth and explore different planets.
